The programme, which was proudly facilitated by male students from the campus, created a platform for open discussions on entrepreneurship, civic responsibility, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), and men’s health. The event encouraged students to become responsible leaders who positively contribute to their communities and society.
The first guest speaker, Mr Sihle Sithole from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, inspired students by highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic independence. He shared valuable information about business opportunities, government support programmes, and the resources available to young men who aspire to start and grow their own businesses.
Representing the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Dundee, Mr Thamsanqa Memela encouraged students to become active citizens by participating in community development and democratic processes. He emphasized the importance of young men registering to vote, taking part in the upcoming local government elections, and using their voices to influence positive change within their communities.
The discussion on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide was led by Mr Melusi Zondo from the Department of Social Development. Speaking from a male perspective, he challenged students to become advocates for respect, equality, and non-violence. He stressed that GBVF is a societal issue that affects everyone and called on men to play a leading role in preventing violence, promoting healthy relationships, and creating safer communities.
The campus nurse, Mr Phiri, concluded the programme by addressing men’s health and wellness. He encouraged male students to prioritise their physical and mental health by attending regular medical check-ups, seeking assistance when needed, and making full use of the healthcare services available at the campus clinic. His message reinforced the importance of early detection, healthy lifestyles, and breaking the stigma surrounding men’s health.
The Men’s Dialogue was a great success, providing students with practical knowledge, inspiration, and an opportunity to engage with professionals from various government departments. The event reaffirmed Majuba TVET College Dundee Technology Centre’s commitment, together with Higher Health and its partners, to developing well-rounded students who are empowered, responsible, and equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.
