Drakenstein Municipality Empowers Social Work Students to address GBVF
On 14 October, Drakenstein Municipality took a bold step forward with their efforts to address GBVF by launching an intensive training program for 40 social work students. This initiative aims to equip future professionals with the tools, knowledge, and skills they need to effectively address, prevent, and respond to GBV on campus.
This hands-on training is designed to empower students to create safer environments, raise awareness, and foster a culture of support and accountability. By investing in the next generation of social workers, we’re ensuring that campuses will have skilled advocates ready to tackle GBV head-on.
The program supports two key goals: increasing the reporting of GBV incidents at Hugenote College in Wellington from just one report every six months to two reports per month, and creating a dedicated space in the rural areas of Simondium to provide protection and support for GBV victims. These efforts aim to make a lasting impact on both campuses and the surrounding communities, creating a safer and more supportive future for all.
