The 100-Day Challenge in Smithfield demonstrates how community commitment and collaboration can strengthen the justice system and restore faith in processes meant to protect survivors of GBVF. Anchored under Pillar 3: Justice, Safety and Protection of the NSP on GBVF, the Smithfield Youth Desk set a goal to ensure that no GBVF cases were withdrawn during the 100-Day Challenge period.

Northlink College is participating in the End GBVF 100-Day Challenge with the intention of creating an environment where students are better informed about GBVF, more confident to report incidents, and supported through practical systems across all seven campuses.

Boland TVET College’s “Reset 100” End GBVF 100-Day Challenge has made a measurable impact on its student body and campus culture. Having just passed the halfway point, the team is still in the process of establishing a final SMURF goal.

Wynberg Magistrate Court started their End GBVF 100-Day Challenge on 11 August with a very ambitious goal: to reduce the backlog of GBVF cases by 100% – from 350 to 0. The court is currently processing around 50 cases per week through the Integrated Case Management System (ICMS), with new cases added as others are finalised. The ambition is to increase this to 100 cases per week. This administrative strengthening is central as reliable data systems are essential for accountability and for measuring progress in how cases are handled.

The Limpopo Department of Social Development has been working to establish a baseline for protection orders. The aim of this was to ensure that every person who applies for a protection also receives counselling support. This approach recognised that legal measures, while essential, are insufficient unless they are combined with psychosocial support that enables survivors to rebuild their lives.

The City of Johannesburg Department of Social Development, led by the Braamfischerville GBVF Action Team, focused on strengthening prevention and response mechanisms in Region C and Region D. Their SMURF goal was ambitious: to implement 20 community-based prevention programmes, train 20 community patrol volunteers, distribute 500 information pamphlets, and establish 2 safe reporting mechanisms within 100 days.

The 100-Day Challenge in West Rand District Municipality was organised around the question of how reporting systems can become reachable in areas where stigma, mistrust and distance from institutions reduce disclosure.

In the Amathole District Municipality, the End GBVF 100-Day Challenge team is focused on cultivating long-term security and independence for women. The team has set an ambitious goal: the economic capacitation of 100 women across four local towns through the establishment of food gardens.

The End GBVF 100-Day Challenge team in Rand West City has made a significant progress, particularly in addressing the backlog of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) cases. The initial goal was to reduce the level of GBVF incidences by 25% in different hotspots.

In a bold and visionary move, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has launched a 100-day campaign that harnesses the transformative power of performance arts, poetry, and dance to confront Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
