West Rand District Municipality Empowers Youth to address Social Issues and GBVF
In a powerful initiative to engage and empower the next generation, the West Rand District Municipality recently hosted a youth dialogue, bringing together 45 young people from local municipalities. The dialogue addressed critical social issues impacting the community, including drugs and substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, and the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
Aligned with their End GBVF 100-Day Challenge, the event highlighted the goal of reducing GBVF incidents and declaring zero tolerance for such violence in Merafong. By involving youth in these discussions, the municipality is fostering active participation and encouraging young people to take a stand against violence and harmful social behaviours.
This initiative aims to build resilience and inspire youth to play a vital role in creating safer, healthier communities. The municipality’s commitment to empowering the younger generation strengthens the work to address GBVF and promotes a brighter future for all.
