Nkangala TVET College Campus student activation
TVET College Campus activation at Nkangala the Witbank Campus
In an effort to address Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in institutions of higher education, the National Institute for Crime Detection and Management (NICDAM) and the National Education Response Team (NERT) recently conducted a dialogue session with students at the TVET College Witbank Campus.
The dialogue session focused on unpacking the concept of GBVF and its various forms. It aimed to empower students by increasing their awareness and understanding of GBVF, which extends beyond physical and sexual violence. The session delved into student-on-student violence, staff on student violence, and student on staff violence, highlighting the importance of recognizing and reporting all forms of GBVF.
The discussions during the campus activation were aligned with the recently amended legislations aimed at combating GBVF. These legislative changes have introduced new definitions that fall under the umbrella of GBVF, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing this issue. By familiarizing students with these amendments, the aim was to encourage them to report any violations they witness or experience, knowing that their concerns will be taken seriously.
The event was designed to be interactive and informative, fostering an open and engaging environment for students to participate in discussions. Through group activities, case studies, and real-life examples, students were encouraged to share their thoughts, experiences, and concerns related to GBVF. The dialogue session also provided a platform for students to seek guidance and support from experts present at the event.
