Context

As part of the Ford Foundation 100 Day Challenge against gender-based violence, the Mossel Bay task team, which includes the municipality’s office for HIV/AIDS, gender, disability and the elderly, is focusing on the establishment of a gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) helpdesk at each police station.

This helpdesk will ensure that victims of gender-based violence does not only go through the legal process to prosecute perpetrators, but that they are given the equally necessary assistance, support and aftercare to deal with the emotional and psychological harm done to them.

On 12 October 2023 the Mossel Bay Municipality, Department of Social Development and the campaign champion Lt Col Maria Gerber, met with members of the South Police Services at the Da Gamaskop Police Station to start the process.

The goal of the GBVF helpdesk is to ensure that every client will receive the assistance and guidance needed.
