Organisational GBVF Health Check
Self-improvement tool on organisational readiness to respond to GBVF
Become part of the End GBVF Movement by starting with the survey. The movement is a group of people inspired to connect, learn from each other, and build our individual and collective capacities to respond to GBVF issues effectively. Through the Movement, we are growing the members of End GBVF Collective and helping organisations prepare to host 100-Day Challenges in their communities.
Movement members could be schools, community-based organisations, government departments, municipalities, courts, universities, churches, private companies, informal networks, or groups of activists who desire to address GBVF in a practical, collaborative, and impactful way.
GBVF Maturity Survey Purpose and Results
The Health Check survey is a self-improvement tool for organisations to assess their performance regarding GBVF-related behaviours, policies, and practices and identify improvement actions. This anonymous survey helps an organisation assess its level of maturity regarding policies, practices, and behaviours related to gender-based violence and femicide. It is not a GBVF audit.
Organisations complete the survey quarterly or biannually through an anonymous, all-staff assessment to track their performance on key GBVF indicators (e.g., incidence of sexual harassment) and evaluate the strength of their GBVF-related policies and practices. These insights help organisational leaders identify priority areas for intervention and investment to enhance their GBVF response.
The survey results are aggregated at provincial, district, and municipal levels, providing a broader view of GBVF-related progress. Each organisation’s results are accessible online only to its designated representative. No one else can access the organisation’s results, ensuring complete privacy and confidentiality. Municipalities and organisational leaders can access the aggregated results.
The survey gets reviewed and adjusted every 6 months to grow with the GBVF maturity of organisations. Below is the current Maturity Scale.
We are currently transitioning to a new platform and the next survey will only be available in Quarter 2 of 2025 on the new platform.

30-Day Organisational GBVF Maturity Challenge
Organisations participating in the Health Check survey will have the opportunity to do a 30-Day GBVF Maturity Challenge, which allows them to make a tangible impact on their GBVF maturity index by addressing critical gaps in policies, practices, or behaviours. Through a structured, collaborative process, the programme empowers senior leaders and their teams to prioritise, design and implement focused improvements within a short timeframe. This initiative fosters rapid organisational growth and lays the groundwork for sustained progress. The 30-Day Maturity Challenge was piloted with SANPARKS, with remarkable results.
Take part in the 30-Day GBVF Maturity Challenge to change how your organisation prioritises Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. Engaging in this transformative journey will impact your organisational approach to GBVF, fostering a culture of awareness and proactive measures. Purpose
Rapidly improve the GBVF Maturity index of an organisation or collaborative group, by focusing on one behaviour, practice, or policy that is prioritised based on the Ending GBVF Health Check survey results.
How it works
The programme aims to support senior leaders in identifying gaps in their organisation’s GBVF maturity and working with a team to improve that area over a short period of time.
To do this, two senior leaders in the organisation will use a step-by-step process to guide them weekly over 10 weeks, from receiving the survey results to making an initial improvement in the index and setting the stage for additional improvements.
Organisations participating in the 10-week programme will be grouped into cohorts of 4-6 members, which will work in full visibility of each other to facilitate peer learning and support.
More about the programme
The programme consists of 3 phases:
1. Reflection, Design, and Mobilisation for the Challenge (3 weeks)
- The organisation’s leaders will use their GBVF Health check maturity report to reflect on and prioritise gaps in policies or behaviours that they would like to focus on. They will decide on sequencing these and the timing to address them..
- The leaders will pick 4-10 people to work on the initial priorities.
- They will recruit this team and challenge them to shape and implement a 30-day project to close the priority gap(s).
2. Implementation of the Challenge (4 weeks)
- The team will have a “Lift-Off Workshop” to set their goal and develop their plan of action
- The team will meet once a week to check progress towards the goal and adjust their plan as necessary.
- At the end of the 30-day implementation period, the team will have a “landing work session” to celebrate their achievements, share their insights with the organisational leaders, and together with the leaders, to set the stage for the next 30-Day GBVF maturity Challenge in the organisation.
3. Design of the Next 30-Day Challenge(s) (3 weeks)
The leadership group, building on the recommendations discussed at the Landing Workshop, will decide on a focus for the next 30-Day Challenge, and mobilise a team to take this on.
This focus could be on:
- Extending the mandate of the previous 30-Day team so they continue to work on implementing their plans.
- Sustaining the gains made during the first 30-Day Challenge.
- Taking on another priority behaviour or policy gap identified in the Health Check..
Depending on the ambition of leaders and the capacity of the organisation, multiple focus areas (requiring multiple teams) could be formed simultaneously.
Based on this, the leadership group will mobilise the proper team(s) and challenge them to shape and implement a 30-day project aimed at making progress in the prioritised gaps.
