Accelerating Justice: The Impact of the End GBVF 100-Day Challenge in Thohoyandou
The Thohoyandou Magistrate Domestic Team embarked on a transformative journey as part of the End GBVF 100-Day Challenge, setting an ambitious goal to finalise 80% of their domestic matters within 100-days.
Achieving the Goal: An Impressive Milestone
The team not only met their goal but exceeded it, finalising an impressive 910 cases during the 100-day period.
Navigating Challenges: The Role of Virtual Technology
Despite their success, the team faced significant obstacles. During the challenge, 877 new cases were opened, averaging 58 new cases per week. This influx of cases required the team to remain agile and resourceful. One of the most pressing challenges was the difficulty in conducting virtual trials. Many of the clients served by the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court come from deep rural areas, where access to technology and data is a significant barrier.
However the team made huge progress in serving respondents quickly. Whenever the applicant was absent from court, the team allocated additional resources to establish a line of communication with them to determine their whereabouts and inform the magistrate accordingly.
Looking Ahead: The Next 100-Day Challenge
Encouraged by their success, the Thohoyandou Magistrate Domestic Team has agreed to undertake the 100-Day Challenge again in the future. The team is now setting a target for sustainability to ensure that this case finalisation rate can be maintained.
The End GBVF 100-Day Challenge is not just a sprint towards a goal but a meaningful stride towards a more efficient, accessible, and compassionate justice system.
