Mediation is a voluntary process, where both parties themselves commit to the process of mediation. The mediator acts as the facilitating third party during mediation and is trained to be completely unbiased and impartial. Mediation opens communication channels and allows parties to come to an agreement that would not otherwise have been possible through litigation.
During Mediation the parties are in control of the outcome and decisions and this is a more positive way to handle divorce and family disputes as you need to restore and keep a healthy relationship with the other party involved. This needs to continue after the dispute has been resolved.
Empowerment
Mediation is an empowering process where all parties involved takes back the control into their own hands to come to a workable and reasonable agreement which is suitable and acceptable to both parties. This is done in an environment which is safe and filled with less anxiety and fear.
The process will provide each party the opportunity to state their fears, concerns, needs, dissatisfaction and wishes.
It is not a Win/Lose battle or outcome but a joint settlement agreement that the parties are involved in to achieve a new perception of their relationship.
